South Carolina Senate votes 30-13 to put the government into the examining rooms

Columbia — The radical conservatives are (for the most part) taking a victory lap and Satan is dancing right now.

Senate Bill 1 passed 30-13, with Marion Democrat Kent Williams joining 29 Republicans in voting for the unconstitutional bill that would ban most abortions.

Vote for James Smith Junior for South Carolina governor

Sixteen years of conservative rule has offered no improvement at all in South Carolina.

In fact, 16 years of conservative rule has resulted in worsening streets and highways, worsening infrastructure, worsening education results and worsening results when it comes to women.

South Carolina was recently named the most dangerous state for a woman to be pregnant in. That is the epitome of what 16 years of conservative rule has done to the state. Read the rest of this entry »

Vote for Stacey Abrams for Georgia governor

Augusta, Ga. — The race for governor concludes on November 6.

There used to be a time where shame used to be a thing and hypocrisy wasn’t.

It is time to get back to those times. Read the rest of this entry »

This Means War

This is an act of war committed by the federal government against its most vulnerable citizens — and the world.

The Honest Courtesan

I hate these website confiscation notices.  The agencies involved always plaster their logos all over the damned thing, like they’re so proud of how they wrecked someone’s business, like a bunch of dogs pissing all over to mark their territory.  It makes me sick.  –  Mark Draughn

So it’s finally happened; after seven and a half years of illegal persecution, the federal government finally wiped its fat, disgusting arse with the last remaining shreds of the Constitution and seized Backpage on a number of trumped-up charges, meaning the usual no-evidence-needed “money laundering” and “conspiracy” to ensure they can still loot the corpse of the victim even after repeated attempts on ridiculous “sex trafficking” charges fell flat.  Judges have repeatedly and consistently sided with Backpage in every challenge

…for the simple reason that the government’s demands are blatantly unconstitutional.  But the evil don’t stop being evil merely because…

The Problem With Personhood Laws

Here is the whole problem with personhood laws. It places the rights of a non-sentinent being above that of a living, breathing human being. Totally unconstitutional and such laws violate basic human rights of women. There is a reason why abortion is legal and must remain that way. Read more from the Grad School Journalist.

Grad School Journalist

South Carolina legislators have re-entered the abortion foray with a new bill asserting that personhood “vests after fertilization.” The bill states that “personhood is God-given, as all men are created in the image of God.” The right to choose or the right to life has been heavily debated since the passing of Roe vs. Wade and has potential to become one of the determining factors in how residents vote in upcoming statewide races.

The bill has been introduced by 21 senators predominately male, with 1 female legislator, and 1 Democrat.

Abortion Facts Abortions report sourced from the SC DHEC website. Updated statistics were not found.

The Personhood of South Carolina website, a non-profit to promote the bill states that, “While we understand and sympathize with the hardships a mother faces in these situations, we are against abortion for the same reason we are against rape — it is a violation of the…

The Ocean City Lawsuit Explained, a Bit.

Hopefully, the Fourth Circuit will right the 27 years of wrongs by judges on the issue of nudity rights and women’s topless rights.

OC Blog photo 2018 Ocean City, Maryland, Spring 2017. This photo was taken just before the Town of Ocean City passed the emergency ordinance addressing the “panic” officials claim bare-chested women would create on the beach.

So after a summer of patient deliberation turned into an autumn of patient deliberation, we have finally filed our civil rights complaint against the Town of Ocean City’s unconstitutional ordinance banning female, but not male, bare-chestedness.

Rather than rehash the story, which is easy enough to find on this blog and through a simple Google search, I thought I would instead do an FAQ about topfreedom and what parts of this lawsuit I can speak to for the benefit of supporters and detractors checking in here as a result of the recent news coverage regarding our lawsuit.

Please understand that I cannot answer certain questions, mostly the ones that require me to make legal arguments.  Lawyers are involved…

Raising A Girl During #MeToo

Erin Matson tells readers of her site what it is like raising a daughter during the era of outing sexual abusers.

Erin Matson

The #MeToo reckoning has only started to reveal the routine and gratuitous presence of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault in the lives of women and girls. It’s going to be a long, slow burn of new stories coming to the surface, some of them shocking and others as duh-tastic as possible (you mean that pompous guy who was known for treating his employees like shit and the “pro-life” congressman who obsessed about controlling women’s bodies all day long on the House floor were treating their women employees like their own personal sexual property? NO WAY!). There will be more backlash, and considering who is president of the United States, it is going to be terrible.

Meanwhile, a whole bunch of us still need to raise our daughters.

I’ll be honest, I find this a particularly challenging moment to parent a girl who is getting ready to go to kindergarten…

Why feminists should embrace public nudity

On Saturday, August 26, people will observe it as the day women got voting rights.

Now, fast forward close to 97 years and women still are not even close to having equality in the United States.

We all know about the War On Women currently being waged by anti-choice extremists. But, this goes far beyond abortion. Nudity rights are in peril by conservatives in cities as well.

While public nudity is legal in 43 states, female toplessness in 48, and breastfeeding in all 50 – only 19 states actually give women the right to breastfeed anywhere she has a right to be (49 protect breastfeeding on paper, but most of them allow towns and cities to ban breastfeeding in public places).

My fellow white Americans.

“THIS is ‘white people’ oppression: We used to be the only voice. Now we hold the only microphone. THIS is ‘white man’ oppression. We face criticism now. We were free from it, because others feared the consequences.

THIS is ‘oppression’ of white Christians in this country. Christmas used to be the only holiday acknowledged, now it’s not.

I would so love to see these people get all the oppression they insist they receive, just for a year. Just to see.

Give them a world where you ACTUALLY can’t say Christmas. A world where the name “Geoff” on a resume puts it in the trash. Give them a world where they suddenly get a 20% pay cut, and then 70 women every day tell them to smile more.

Give them a world where their polo shirt makes people nervous, so they’re kicked off the flight from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis.

Give them a world where they inherited nothing but a very real understanding of what oppression really fucking is.

Give them a world where if they pulled up on a campus with torches lit and started throwing hands, the cops would punch their eyes out. Put THAT in your Tiki torches and light it, you sorry Nazi bitches.

Why I Walk Bare-Chested “Where Men Don’t.”

“People say seeing female breasts is harmful to children.  This is not true.  Children need breasts for nourishment and comfort.  What is harmful to children is watching their parents apply disparate standards to men and women, and making girls cover up while not making boys cover up.  Violence and hate harm children more than anything, but we don’t censor those.

Words like “decent,” “proper,” and “moral” strike me now as weapon words, words used by those in power to oppress and control.  They are words steeped in subjectivity and prejudice.  Who decides what is proper and over whom do they wield this standard?  What is the penalty for violating this standard?  To me it is another way of saying a person has deviated from the norm, behaved atypically, or strayed from the herd, whether it was by doing backflips through the mall or demanding racial equality and justice.  There are people who are just inherently threatened by people doing their own thing.”
