Frowning Faces, Ugly Places: Unconstitutional bill banning abortion signed into law – pro-freedom groups sue five seconds later

Columbia — It is no longer a great day in South Carolina.

Instead, it is an awful day in the state.

Henry McMaster, as promised, signed a totally unconstitutional bill banning abortion into law at about 13:25.

Kemp to sign unconstitutional HB 481 on Tuesday

Atlanta — After weeks of speculation, we now got word on House Bill 481.

Brian Kemp is expected to sign HB 481 on Tuesday afternoon, sources say.

The bill is a total ban on all abortions and contraceptives. The ACLU of Georgia and many others, including patients themselves, will file a federal lawsuit the second HB 481 becomes law.

Massive boycotts of Georgia have been triggered because of this soon-to-be law, and it will drive the filming industry to neighboring South Carolina, whose laws are not as stringent.

Georgia ranks in the top two for maternal mortality and in the top ten for infant mortality – and anti-choice laws such as HB 481 are the direct causes of maternal deaths and infant deaths. Anti-choice laws have made Georgia one of the most dangerous states to be in as a woman.

Meet Josiah Magnuson, the man who wants government to control all South Carolinians with personhood bill

Columbia — The 2019 legislative session is upon us and it is not good news at all for anyone who cares about liberty.

Already, a Campobello Republican, Josiah Magnuson, prefiled a bill that would basically turn pregnant people into the property of the state of South Carolina.

Speaking to the Spartanburg GOP earlier this month, he said, “The Personhood Act will define life at conception so that all humans are protected under state law, regardless of age.”

The bill would, much like Ohio’s recently vetoed bill, prosecute women for having abortions and miscarriages.

As Vicki Ringer tweeted, there are a quartet of Dems cosponsoring this unconstitutional bill.

What part of get the government out of women’s lives do these arrogant politicians like Magnuson not understand?

What part of “Stop the Bans” do South Carolina politicians not get?

When will people who can not get pregnant stop trying to dictate pregnant people’s lives?

Pregnant people’s lives matter far more than that of a fetus. And furthermore, South Carolina was recently named the Worst State to Be a Woman.

Yes. The Worst State to Be a Woman due to anti-choice laws like this one.

These busybodies need to mind their own business. Kill this bill in the upcoming session on January 8, 2019!

Time to Delete Tumblr: Tumblr burns its community to the ground – bans nudity, LGBTQIA content

Basking Ridge, N.J. — Tumblr has decided that having an iOS app was more important than having a community of long time users and supporters.

Today, the social media site is banning all forms of nudity and is razing its LGBTQIA community to the ground.

Kitty Stryker wrote all about it for Vice:

No site should allow child porn, obviously. But thousands of sites manage to effectively moderate to keep their platforms free of child porn, while allowing adult content more broadly. After being removed from the App Store but before making the announcement that it would ban all adult content, Tumblr began to purge some adult and NSFW artists from the site.

Monday, Tumblr announced it would ban adult content altogether. In a blog post, Tumblr CEO Jeff D’Onofrio wrote that “there are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content.”

But there are fewer and fewer mainstream sites and services that support porn and adult content, and much of that attitude has grown out of Apple’s strict controls over the App Store and the iOS ecosystem. Steve Jobs famously suggested that “folks who want porn can buy an Android phone,” and Apple has repeatedly leveraged its unprecedented power over millions of smartphones to sanitize the apps that are available on iPhones. Apple does not allow apps “that contain user generated content that is frequently pornographic.” In 2016, Apple famously deleted all third-party Reddit apps that allowed users to toggle NSFW posts on and off; even now, it is impossible to access porn on an iOS Reddit app unless you jump through various hoops.

She continues on that Tumblr was the one place where “we could find porn that represents us, made by indie performers who created their own content outside of an often racist, transmisogynist, fatphobic industry. Tumblr was where our content could exist without pushing us into the restrictions of a misogynist, male dominated workplace.”

She adds that Tumblr was a place where sex education could be freely discussed without attacking marginalized communities, such as the kink, asexual and poly communities.

“I’d be shocked if, since this depends on user reports, this doesn’t disproportionately affect users who are not white, cis, able bodied, slender, and feminine,” said Mrs. Stryker. “It’s a huge loss from an identity affirming perspective, from an educational perspective, from a feminist erotica perspective.”

In short, Tumblr is using child porn as an excuse to ban all forms of nudity, adult and LGBTQIA content.

Tumblr still will allow Nazis on the site, though.

“It’s hilarious how they’ll ban anything even remotely adult, given it’s part of what made their platform initially popular, but they can’t handle actual hate speech, the pearl clutching ‘think of the children’ crusaders who attack anyone they deem ‘wrong’, or Nazi bullshit,” Abigail Sin, who uses Tumblr for NSFW fandom blogs as well as her own sex work, told Motherboard in a Twitter message. “By hilarious I mean ridiculous. There are fan artists who stopped creating because of the shit they’ve been put through there—everything from rape threats and death threats to character assassination.”

It is time to uninstall the Tumblr app, folks.

Republicans call for special order to ban second trimester abortions

Columbia — The party of big intrusive government is at it again in the state legislature.

This time, the Republicans want to ban abortions in the second trimester.

According to Planned Parenthood South Atlantic South Carolina president Vicki Ringer, the GOP called for a special order on H. 3548, a bill that passed the House under regular rules in the winter because the GOP hates women.

Imagine if these arrogant politicians dictated to doctors how to perform open heart surgery or a colonoscopy, both of which are much more dangerous for women than abortion.

And conservatives ever wonder why no self-respecting woman will ever vote for them.

Let’s send H. 3548 to its graveyard. Call your state Senator or text 50409 to the Resistbot to find your state Senators and demand they vote no on H. 3548!

South Carolina House introduces bill to ban Medicaid patients from receiving health care

Columbia — The South Carolina House of Representatives have introduced another bill that would essentially ban Medicaid patients from receiving any kind of health care.

The bill is known as H. 4491, and it defunds the only health care provider in the state that accepts Medicaid patients, Planned Parenthood. If H. 4491 is passed into law, there will be absolutely no alternatives for Medicaid patients in South Carolina for health care.

Vicki Ringer, the director of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic South Carolina, writes:

Attention : major announcement for tomorrow morning March 7 th :
Friends, the House Judiciary Subcommittee is holding a hearing tomorrow morning at 9 am in Room 516 of the Blatt Building on the State House grounds (it’s between the Gressette Building and Pendleton Street). The bill is H. 4491 which prevents patients on Medicaid from coming to abortion clinics for pap smears, breast exams, birth control, STD testing and treatment, cancer screenings and other health care. This is the “defund Planned Parenthood” bill.

It has absolutely no impact on the number of abortions performed because state and federal law already prohibit funding for abortion. And though the bill says it affects abortion clinics, Planned Parenthood is the only one affected because we’re the only one which accepts Medicaid.

We really need people who will testify so we can fill the agenda and perhaps slow down a vote or prevent a vote tomorrow.

You don’t need any facts or statistics. Just talk about how politicians are interfering with women’s health care choices, taking away women’s option to go to an already trusted health care provider, making it more difficult for low income women to seek care, hurting women over and over again. It’s getting really tiring having to constantly defend our basic rights to care. Legislators have decided that they haven’t punished us enough this year.

Please come tomorrow and show your support AGAIN for our reproductive rights in SC.

Please forward this to all your networks and contacts. Share on social media. Post on Facebook. Let’s fill the room again!

Thank you so much!

Vicki

With the state being much worse off now than it was in 1986, waging a War on South Carolina Women is what this crooked conservative state does best.

November 6, where are you?

388 Anti-Sex extremists in the House just blatantly ignored the will of over 300 million Americans in passing the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act – a bill that would allow people to kill scores of law abiding sex workers if it becomes law

Washington, DC — So much for making DC listen to the people.

Despite over 300 million Americans opposing House Resolution 1865, known as the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA), the House of Representatives passed the unconstitutional bill. Eighteen representatives did not vote.

Republican Jeff Duncan, surprisingly, was the only Representative of any of the local counties to vote to protect sex trafficking survivors by being among 25 to vote against FOSTA. Mark Sanford (R), who represents the Charleston area, was the only other Tri-State Representative to protect sex trafficking survivors. Read the rest of this entry »

Trump gets rid of Obama-era rules on birth control – meaning bosses can legally ax women for simply possessing birth control pills

Washington, DC – Women can now be legally fired from their jobs simply for possessing birth control after the Trump Administration today nixed a rule about birth control that former President Obama had enacted five years ago.

Rewire’s Christine Grimaldi shared on Twitter a piece of the new rule the Trump Administration posted at 11:00 EDT.

https://mobile.twitter.com/chgrimaldi/status/916321656095821824

The rules that the Obama administration had enacted also allowed women to get birth control for little to no cost. That too, is gone, as of today, meaning that the price of birth control is about to skyrocket.

And if Trump, Trent Franks and Lindsey Graham have their way, women would also be prosecuted and jailed for up to five years simply for possession of birth control pills.

This is not about religious liberty or the “unborn” folks. This, as well as the proposed 20-week ban on abortion that passed the House on Tuesday, is about one thing and one thing only: A government takeover of women’s bodies and lives.

Henry McMaster punishes women further by forcing medical facilities to stop working with abortion providers

Columbia — Donald Trump’s closest ally in South Carolina, Henry McMaster, signed an executive order punishing the state’s women further.

The executive order requires state run medical facilities to cease doing business of any kind with abortion providers.

The state earlier ended its reimbursements to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood swiftly slammed the out of touch governor:

“Planned Parenthood South Atlantic has provided annual exams, birth control, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and lifesaving cancer screenings- such as clinical breast exams and Pap tests- to women, men and young people in South Carolina for over 50 years.

Planned Parenthood does not receive Title X funding or any other grants through the state of South Carolina. We do serve patients who rely on Medicaid for their insurance, and provide basic healthcare to men and women who participate in the state health insurance plan.

Given this clear-cut information, today’s executive order issued by Governor McMaster is simply a political stunt. While he spends taxpayers’ time and money on scoring political points, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic will continue to focus on providing the wide-range of accessible, affordable health care services that our patients, and his constituents, rely on.”

Trump signs bill denying millions of people freedom of choice when it comes to basic health care

trump-signing-bill-blog-feature-1200x630__1200x900_q75_subsampling-2

Washington, DC — Earlier this afternoon, Donald Trump signed a bill that denies at least four million – and as many as 50+ million – low- and middle-income women and transgender people basic health care.

And that is not all: it also denies all women the freedom to choose their health care provider by defunding Planned Parenthood via proxy – with the state governments as the proxy.

From Planned Parenthood:

Timeline of Attacks

Impact of the Bill

The White House and extremists in Congress just made it harder for women to get the essential, basic health care they need to survive and to thrive.  This dangerous bill emboldens states to prevent use of Title X funds at a health center just because it also provides safe, legal abortion.

“People are sick and tired of politicians making it even harder for them to access health care, and this bill is just the latest example. Planned Parenthood strongly opposes President Trump’s willingness to undermine millions of women’s access to birth control through the Title X family planning program. Four million people depend on the Title X family planning program, and by signing this bill, President Trump disregards their health and well-being.

—Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America

About Title X

Title X provides basic preventive health care for millions of people with low incomes or without health insurance. Title X is the only federal program dedicated solely to family planning.

Learn everything you need to know about Title X.

Take Action

In case it wasn’t clear, Pence and his allies in Congress are dead set on dismantling access to health care and protections for women wherever they can — no matter how many people they hurt, and no matter how unpopular it is. Take action to protect access to reproductive health.

Pure, unadulterated evil shown in this picture as US Senate votes to defund Planned Parenthood

mike pence smiles as he breaks tie to destroy women's rights

This so-called Vice President is pure evil scum.

Washington, DC — Evil won again today in the US Senate as Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote to defund Planned Parenthood and allow US States to do the same.

This vote came 8.5 weeks after the extremely important Women’s March protesting against this very stuff.

All Republicans, except for the vulnerable Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, voted for the big government power grab. No Democrats, not even DINO Joe Manchin (W.Va.), voted in favor of this proposal.

Trump has promised to sign this bill, which was rammed through via the Congressional Review Act.

Creating a Monster

There needs to be international laws allowing for sex workers outside of the United States to sue the federal government and any US state government over illegally shutting down the Erotic Services of any classifieds web page.

The Honest Courtesan

Inside of the White Slave TrafficWith Backpage in the news so much, and various government actors vomiting out so many egregious lies about it, I thought it might be a good idea to recap how this whole shitshow developed from its roots in the previous “sex trafficking” moral panic to the present political circus.  See, while the politicians want you to believe that Backpage is some sort of magical pimp machine the likes of which has never been seen before, the truth is that Backpage ads are the end result of a slow and steady progression of advertising starting roughly a century ago, just after prostitution was criminalized in the US at the height of the last go-round of hysteria over “sex trafficking” (or as it was called then, “white slavery”).  Once brothels could no longer operate openly, escort services appeared, while some women chose to frequent hotels and such and others preferred to take out personal…
