Burke County shutting down all schools for two weeks as of 3:45 pm today due to spiking COVID cases
Waynesboro — The Burke County School District announced that schools will be shut down for two weeks as of 3:45 pm today.
This is because of rising COVID cases within the county and schools.
Burke County has no virtual option.
The school district sent this statement out to citizens today at noon:
“Effective Monday, August 16, no students will be reporting to school for two weeks. As of this morning, we have had over 40 new positive student cases reported since last Friday. These cases seem to be distributed most heavily among Burke County High School, Burke County Middle School, and Blakeney Elementary School (Waynesboro). Students will return to school on Monday, August 30. We will keep you updated on any additional changes.”
Edmund Burke Academy, a Georgia Independent School Association school member, will remain open.
