New Sheriff in town: McWilliams makes history in Taliaferro County
Crawfordville, Ga. — History has officially been made in one of Georgia’s smallest counties.
Tia McWilliams is now the first African-American and first female sheriff in Taliaferro County.
The population of Taliaferro County is 1,608 as of 2010. That makes the county about the same size in population as Jackson, S.C., a town in southern Aiken County. The population figures from the most recent census in 2020 will be released soon.
Sheriff McWilliams was interviewed by WJBF’s Shawn Cabbagestalk about her new role.
