BREAKING NEWS: Roof found guilty in federal trial of assassinating Pinckney, eight others at Emanuel AME Church
Charleston — A federal jury has convicted white supremacist Dylann Roof in the murder-assassination of nine African-American members of the historic Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston in one of the worst mass shootings in state history.
Among the nine people killed was Clementa Pinckney, an African-American representative who represented Allendale and Hampton counties in the state legislature.
All total, Mr. Roof was found guilty of every one of the thirty-three charges against him, including hate crimes charges.
In the first court proceeding in Charleston County in 2017, the jury of nine Caucasians and three African-Americans will reconvene to determine if Mr. Roof will be among the rare breed of Americans sent to the federal death row in Terre Haute, Ind.
