Confirmed: Tornados hit four local counties
AIKEN — It’s official.
The National Weather Service in Columbia said that two tornados hit four local counties on Sunday, including a long-tracked tornado that formed in Burke County and tracked all the way to near Chapin in Lexington County.
That particular tornado was the catalyst of the damage done to the city of Aiken, both North Aiken and South Aiken.
The second, more brief tornado, was confirmed in Edgefield County.
They were among five twisters confirmed between the Columbia and Wilmington county warning areas within the state.
