Moments after NASCAR ripped Indiana over law, sport rips Hoosier with crippling P5 penalty

DAYTONA BEACH — We guess we know why NASCAR decided to come out swinging against Indiana’s law before they make another big announcement.

Ryan Newman must now win out after an extensive investigation wound up with a massive penalty.

The No. 31 team was penalized minutes after NASCAR came down hard on Indiana for its religious bigotry law for rules infractions discovered as a result of NASCAR’s post-event tire investigation conducted following the March 22 race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.  These infractions amount to a P5 level penalty and violate the following Sections in the 2015 NASCAR rule book:

12.1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing

20.16: Wheels and tires
A. Any device, modification, or procedure to the tire or wheel, including the valve stem hardware, that is used to release pressure, beyond normal pressure adjustments, from the tire and/or inner shield, will not be permitted.

20.16.2: Tires
F. Modifications to the tires, by treatment or any other means, will not be permitted.

Section 12.5.3.5.1 lists P5 Penalty Violation examples that could include but are not limited to:
A. Effecting, modifying and/or altering the standard tires in any way, other than through authorized means such as tire pressure adjustments within the recommended range, permitted tire cooling when mounted on the race vehicle; or heat-cycling on the race vehicle on the race track earlier in the event.

12.5.3.5.2: Minimum P5 Penalty Options (includes all four points below):
A. Loss of 50 championship driver and owner points, regardless of whether the violation occurred during a Championship race or not
B. $75,000-$125,000 fine
C. Suspension for the next six series Championship Races, plus any non-championship races or special events which might occur during that time period, for the crew chief and any other team members as determined by NASCAR
D. Probation through the end of the calendar year for all suspended members, or for a six-month period following the issuance of the penalty notice if that period spans across two consecutive seasons

12.5.3.5.3: P5 Level infractions detected during post-race inspection:
If the infraction is detected during post-race inspection, then the following penalty elements will be added to those listed previously in this section:
A. Loss of an additional 25 Championship driver and owner points; regardless of whether it was a Championship Race or not
B. Loss of an additional $50,000

The penalty means that Mr. Newman was stripped of 75 driver points, Richard Childress Racing was stripped on a grand total of 100 owner points (75 for this infraction, plus the 25 points Brian Scott was docked for an unrelated P4 infraction). Luke Lambert has been suspended for seven races total, including the Sprint All-Star events on May 17, and fined $175,000.00.

Because the penalties occurred before June 30, the probationary period is longer: everyone on the 31 team is on probation until December 31.

“We’ve been very clear that any modifications to race vehicle tires is an unacceptable practice and will not be tolerated,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, in regard to the penalties dealt to the No. 31 team.

Sprint Cup Series Managing Director Richard Buck said Monday that teams were reminded of the severity of penalties for tire infractions during a meeting with crew chiefs on Friday at Martinsville Speedway.

“We generally have crew chief meetings where we will address topics and issues with crew chiefs, get information to them,” said Mr. Buck. “And that was the case at Martinsville. We had several things that we addressed there, but one of the things was the tires.”

Richard Childress Racing president Torrey Galida said the organization would consider its options as further information is provided.

“We understand the seriousness of the penalty,” said Mr. Galida. “In fact, RCR has been one of the most outspoken opponents against ‘tire bleeding’ since the rumors began to surface last season.”

Once NASCAR provides us with the specific details of the infraction we will conduct a further internal investigation, and evaluate our options for an appeal.”

The massive, crippling penalty dropped Mr. Newman from the Top 6 all the way back to near the danger zone, in 26th, in overall points.

Man arrested after threatening to get naked in lewd manner and masturbate to girls

NASCAR is the latest to slam Indiana’s religious bigotry law

DAYTONA BEACH — Usually, when we hear from NASCAR on a weekday, it’s to announce the latest penalties.

Today, though, wasn’t among those days.

Today, following in the footsteps of Apple and Microsoft, NASCAR condemned Indiana’s religious bigotry law in the strongest of terms.

NASCAR is disappointed by the recent legislation passed in Indiana.  We will not embrace nor participate in exclusion or intolerance,” the association’s senior vice president and chief communications officer, Brett Jewkes, said in a statement posted to NASCAR.com.

Home to the sport’s fifth grand slam event (the fourth of five in annual chronological order), the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the state has come under fire for the legislation, signed on March 26 by Gov. Mike Pence (R).  NASCAR’s statement follows those of the NBA, WNBA (and their respective franchises in the state) as well as all four schools that will be heading to Indianapolis for the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four games.

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which takes effect July 1, allows for individuals or corporations to cite religious beliefs when being sued by a private party. Critics say, however, that this could in turn enable discrimination, particularly toward the LGBT, minority and nudist communities.

Here is Mr. Jewkes’ full statement:

NASCAR is disappointed by the recent legislation passed in Indiana. We will not embrace nor participate in exclusion or intolerance. We are committed to diversity and inclusion within our sport and therefore will continue to welcome all competitors and fans at our events in the state of Indiana and anywhere else we race.

TO which we say: Bravo, NASCAR!  Bravo!

T-Mobile has updated their coverage map, and some Barnwell County LTE shows up as verified

TMobile legend on new maps

For those who have been following T-Mobile ever since July 2013 (like yours truly), you can see the improvements they have done first-hand on their new maps.

However, there is still work to be done, especially along US 78 east from the Williston Town Limits to Elko.

The maps below show that some 4G LTE is creeping into Barnwell County, but not in any incorporated community.

In a press conference on Monday, T-Mobile called this map the “next-gen” map.  It shows near real-time customer experiences on the T-Mobile & MetroPCS networks based on “200 million actual customer usage data points every day”. The map also includes usage data from third party sources, including Inrix, a company which specializes in network analytics.

The new map includes:

  • “Customer-verified coverage” which is base on real-world customer usage. This results in a more transparent and accurate map which should show exactly where you can expect 4G LTE, 4G HSPA+, 3G or other coverage levels.
  • “Verified Coverage” icon – This icon indicates areas where most of the coverage data is provided by T-Mobile customers reporting actual, real-life network experiences. T-Mobile hopes this will help add more confidence in the data on its coverage maps.  This is not available on MetroPCS at this time.
  • Regular updates – T-Mobile will update the data on both its map and MetroPCS’s map twice every month, so that it’s as up to data as you can expect. And will certainly be the most up to date coverage map offered by any US carrier.
  • Lastly – Speed test data from trusted third party apps will show average download speeds from customer speed tests over the last 90 days.

And just for the hell of it, here’s MetroPCS’s maps of Williston. The magenta has been replaced with a cobalt blue-like color for MetroPCS.

Qual format changing for restrictor plate superspeedways

TALLADEGA, Ala. — The fiascos at Daytona Beach during qualifying for the Daytona 500 and at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2014 led to NASCAR making changes for the formats of all three major divisions.

This morning, NASCAR announced that drivers will go out in solo runs. Unlike in the past, though, the drivers will only get one lap instead of two.

There will be two rounds, with the top 12 drivers advancing to the final round after a 10-minute break.

NASCAR said it reserves the right to have multiple cars qualifying at the same time.

Instagram removed this photo of a fully clothed woman on her period, TWO TIMES!

Instagram-photo-was-removed

This weekend, Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, removed a photo of a woman on her menstrual cycle.

Not once.

But two times.

Rupi Kaur, the poet who posted the photo, told Madame Noire that she may have the answer as to why the photo was removed.

Now, tell me which of these violations of the terms of service the photo above violated:

Nudity (including breastfeeding) – NO
Violence – NO
Offensive content (including profanity) – NO

After scanning the terms of service word for word, Ms. Kaur reposted the photo.

Instagram nuked it a second time.

That’s when Ms. Kaur sent these messages to be circulated around in social media:

thank you @instagram for providing me with the exact response my work was created to critique. you deleted a photo of a woman who is fully covered and menstruating stating that it goes against community guidelines when your guidelines outline that it is nothing but acceptable. the girl is fully clothed. the photo is mine. it is not attacking a certain group. nor is it spam. and because it does not break those guidelines i will repost it again. i will not apologize for not feeding the ego and pride of misogynist society that will have my body in an underwear but not be okay with a small leak. when your pages are filled with countless photos/accounts where women (so many who are underage) are objectified. pornified. and treated less than human. thank you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀

This image is a part of my photoseries project for my visual rhetoric course. you can view the full series at rupikaur.com
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
i bleed each month to help make humankind a possibility. my womb is home to the divine. a source of life for our species. whether i choose to create or not. but very few times it is seen that way. in older civilizations this blood was considered holy. in some it still is. but a majority of people. societies. and communities shun this natural process. some are more comfortable with the pornification of women. the sexualization of women. the violence and degradation of women than this. they cannot be bothered to express their disgust about all that. but will be angered and bothered by this. we menstruate and they see it as dirty. attention seeking. sick. a burden. as if this process is less natural than breathing. as if it is not a bridge between this universe and the last. as if this process is not love. labour. life. selfless and strikingly beautiful.

Dear tumblr family,

Instagram has chosen to once again, take down this image for violating community guidelines. Despite the fact that about 95% of comments were beautiful. And in support.
This just goes to show who is sitting behind the desk. And who’s controlling the show, who’s controlling the media and who’s censoring us.It’s sad that this is still happening in this world. I know that some communities and cultures go out of their way to shun and oppress a woman on her period. I guess Instagram is another one of them. Some women aren’t allowed in their religious place of worship or out of their homes to do certain things. And are told they are sick. As if the period is a common cold.

Yes. This is what happens even here, in North America.

I have been hospitalized many times because of issues associated with my period. I have been suffering from a sickness related to my period. And ever since I have been working so hard to love it. Embrace it. Celebrate it. Even thought it’s given me so much pain in the past few years. and they want to tell me I should be quiet about this. That all of this we experience collectively does not need to be seen. Just felt secretly behind closed doors. That’s why this is important. Because when I first got my period my mother was sad and worried. And they want to censor all that pain. Experience. Learning. No.

I am going to share the photo again once I figure out how to go about it. I would appreciate if you could @instagram and express your thoughts. Or even share the photo on whatever social media platform.

Their patriarchy is leaking. Their misogyny is leaking. We will not be censored.”

After this fiasco, I have to say that Ms. Kaur is correct and Instagram/Facebook are wrong.  And of course, these arbitrary guidelines are not just enforced on nudists, they’re enforced on anyone who does something that ‘offends’ overly sensitive people who need to grow up.

Everyone knows that manhood isn’t easy.  For one, women force us to make the first moves.  We’re also expected to pay for all of a first date.  Also, we have to check our privilege.  And so much more.

I know that I have not been around women long enough to know this, so I am basing this off what I see on the internet.  So forgive me, but womanhood is definitely not peaches and cream.  For one, most women talk about their menstrual cycles and periods when they are at functions like bowling.  They also have a legitimate fear of being attacked by guys.  They have a legitimate fear of politicians, many of whom run on empty promises to reduce the size of government.  They are slut-shamed.  They are attacked by society for making the first moves on men.  They’re attacked by society for paying for dinner when they are on a first date with men.  They are attacked by society putting out on the first date.  They are attacked by society for breastfeeding (or being naked or topless) in public.  They are attacked for not conforming to societal standards.

Facebook isn’t just being gymnophobic, as I long knew them to be.  They also being misogynistic.

Millen native arrested for DV again; booted from Crimson Tide before taking a snap

Taylor was previously arrested and booted from Georgia for domestic violence

Today's News Briefs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Sooner rather than later, Millen native Jonathan Taylor has to learn to treat girls with respect.

Mr. Taylor was arrested for the second time in less than eight months on Saturday for criminal domestic violence, this time by the Tuscaloosa Police Office and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at the University of Alabama.

Early today, he was booted from the Crimson Tide before he ever took a snap.

Just after 18:06 Saturday, the Tuscaloosa Police Office were called to a residence after a woman three years older than Mr. Taylor called deputies to her place.  They spoke to the 24-year-old victim and she briefly talked about the altercation and showed evidence of injury from the fight with Mr. Taylor.

At that point, Mr. Taylor was questioned.  The 21-year-old Jenkins County High School standout was then handcuffed and taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a mandatory half-day hold on charges of third-degree domestic violence and third-degree criminal mischief domestic violence.

He was just released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail at 18:00 today.

Nick Saban, the head coach of the Crimson Tide, released this statement after he kicked Mr. Taylor off the team:

“Jonathan Taylor has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our program.  This will still need to go through the legal process, but when he was given an opportunity here, it was under strict guidelines and we made it clear there was a zero tolerance policy.”

He was booted from Georgia eight months ago.  Mr. Taylor also faces expulsion from Alabama.

Some stations flipping from country music to other genres after bigoted listeners attack Little Big Town for Top 40 hit

After country stations limit airplay of ‘Girl Crush’, some stations are getting rid of country music altogether

Little-Big-Town

NASHVILLE — Like they say, for every action, there’s a reaction.

On Tuesday, the day that new music is released both on the radio and in stores (until June 26), Little Big Town released the song ‘Girl Crush’.  Needless to day, in the Arbitron Top 250 radio markets, outrage from bigoted listeners ensued against both Little Big Town and country music stations, eventually leading to the song getting banned on stations such as WSCG, the 100,000-watt powered country music station in the Augusta, Ga.-Aiken, S.C. market; WCOS, the 100,000 watt powered station in Columbia; and TexMex, a station in Texas whose disc jockeys were interviewed by Al.com, a news site in Birmingham, Ala.

According to Raw Story, the Top 40 hit is written from the perspective of a woman who is jealous of her ex-boyfriend’s new flame.  “I want to taste her lips, yeah cause they taste like you / I want to drown myself in a bottle of her perfume,” Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild sings in the song.  “I want her long blond hair, I want her magic touch / Yeah cause maybe then, you’d want me just as much — I got a girl crush.”

According to “TexMex”, the first time the song was played, his station was deluged with complaints from ignorant listeners who didn’t even bother looking up the meaning of the lyrics about its “‘obvious’ lesbian meaning.”

He copped to being puzzled by the ignorance. “Did you listen to the song all the way through?  Do you not like songs about women being jealous of a mistress?” he asked.  “This is the foundation of female country music subjects most of the time.”

In an interview with Vevo, Ms. Fairchild’s band mate, Kimberly Schlapman agreed, saying, “this woman is just looking at the woman her man left her for and wondering, ‘What does she have that I don’t have?  What am I missing?  What is it that she’s giving you that I can’t give you?’”

When “TexMex” attempted to explain the song’s meaning to his ignorant and irate listeners, “every one of them responded with basically the same thing (paraphrased): ‘You are just promoting the gay agenda on your station and I am changing the channel and never listening to you ever again!’”

Bobby Bones, a syndicated host whose show is on most country music stations in the United States, told The Washington Post, “it shouldn’t even matter if it’s a lesbian song, is the first thing.”

“Is it frustrating to you that here is your song — that is one of the Top 10 sellers for weeks and weeks and weeks — and people on the radio are still afraid to play it because they think it’s a ‘lesbian song?’” he asked.  The song is the fourth most popular country song on iTunes, but is currently only charting at 33 in radio airplay.  The song also ranks as one of the Top 10 most popular currently on Xbox Music, Microsoft’s media player, media library, online radio broadcaster, and mobile device management application. The song is the most purchased and listened to song from Little Big Town on Xbox Music.

What that means, according to “TexMex”, is that his radio station will only play the song two times per day, and never during peak listening periods, which are usually from 6:00 to 18:00.

The reaction to the bigotry of country music fans has been just as ferocious for some stations as they have immediately dumped the country music format for other formats such as urban contemporary and rock.

Xbox Music is now integrated with OneDrive…but only for Microsoft products

REDMOND, Wash. — Some good news for Windows Phone fans finally!

After receiving bad news on the apps side for the better part of two to three weeks, on Wednesday, Microsoft released an update to the Xbox Music.  This is known as Xbox Music 2.6.674.0.

There is only one update to Xbox Music here, but it is a major update.

With this update, OneDrive is now fully integrated with Xbox Music.  However, that is only true for Windows phone, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows desktop/notebook/netbook/tablet devices.

If you’re running Xbox Music and OneDrive on an IPhone, IPad, IPod, or an Android desktop or Android mobile device, sorry – you’re shit outta luck here.

This update also will automatically download all tracks – up to 50,000 total – to the device when you choose Keep Playlist Offline.

Microsoft now allows OneDrive users to download up to 6.912 terabytes of music onto the cloud service, which would be 50,000 extremely high-quality songs hypothetically.
