Augusta-Richmond County man arrested for sexually assaulting girl

AUGUSTA, GA — A man has been arrested and charged with raping a child.

The investigation began last month after the father of the victim and the suspect fought at a residence on Anne St.

Officers then talked to the child, who told them the suspect had touched her inappropriately in June. She also told police the man had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions.

Brian Ransom, of Augusta, was arrested by the Augusta-Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and charged with child molestation. Officers arrested him while he was walking along Lumpkin Rd on Saturday afternoon.

NYPD cop arrested for sexual assault

NEW YORK CITY — A NYPD officer is behind bars, arrested for sexually assaulting a girl after his wife walked right in on him.

Peter Ciollo, 29, was arrested and charged with attempted rape, unlawfully dealing alcohol to a child, endangering the welfare of a child, and sexual abuse.

The Staten Island Advance reported that the Mr. Ciollo’s wife “walked in on him and the underage female in a compromising position on the Fourth of July.” The New York Daily News‘s sources posted a whole lot more, graphic in detail: “Ciollo gave the girl alcohol before letting her drive his car. The cop allegedly provided her with more to drink before they returned to his home.”

Once at his residence, Mr. Ciollo allegedly showed the girl porn, asked her to remove her shirt, and then got her into bed, where “he had the teen climb on top of him while he rubbed his genitals against hers, the sources said.” Later on, his wife walked into the room.

Both the suspect and victim knew each other.

The Post’s sources have this to add (emphasis added): “The encounter between the married 29-year-old cop and the intoxicated victim may have started out as consensual but eventually went too far, sources said.”

Thirty states and the District of Columbia have an age of consent at 16, including Georgia and the Carolinas. New York is not among those 30. The age of consent in New York is 17 and is the nearest state to the Georgia-lina region with that age as the age of consent.

Mr. Ciollo is expected to be arraigned today.

After six years, Duke toughens up its sexual assault policy

DURHAM, NC — Six years and one dead man later, Duke University is finally overhauling its archaic sexual assault policies.

Starting next month, people who are found responsible for sexual assault will be expelled. This includes anyone found responsible for male-on-female, female-on-male or female-on-female sexual assault.

However, that does not mean that Duke will pull the expulsion trigger quickly, though.

Duke student affairs vice president Larry Moneta supported the harsher sanctions, but said that previous sanctions — which was suspension from the university for between three and six semesters — would remain in place and would be the second option rather than the first.

Mr. Moneta hopes the new police will make clear how serious sexual misconduct is.
