Eagles peck Blue Devils, Yellow Jackets

GREENWOOD and COLUMBIA — Eagles reigned supreme on Friday.

In Columbia, the Eagles of Scott’s Branch defeated Williston-Elko by an final of 34-32. The final margin came on three controversial penalties against the Blue Devils.

First, the ‘illegal’ shift on a Wildcat play during the two point try. Then, the onside kick penalty. And finally, the ‘facemask’ penalty on a critical fourth down play with just over a minute left in the game.

The Blue Devils did not help themselves early on. Mr. Parker ran for two scores and threw for another. W-E was down 22-6 at the half.

The Blue Devils finish 12-2.

In Greenwood, the Eagles of the namesake ended North Augusta’s season 34-21. Again, there was some controversy with officiating in this game, though not nearly as much as it was in the Class A Division II title game.

The Yellow Jackets entered the 4th quarter tied at 21. But, the turning point was when the Eagles blocked a punt. The Jackets were never able to recover from that.

The Jackets then turned the ball over on downs twice, and the first turnover on downs led to the Eagles putting the icing on the cake.

The Yellow Jackets also finish 12-2.

No titles for the Aiken area this year, folks.
